The day prior to your colonoscopy you may have a light breakfast (cereal, toast, eggs, fruit, oatmeal) then Clear Liquids only until midnight. Begin your first dosing regimen at 12:00 PM. Take 2 bisacodyl tablets with water. Do NOT chew or crush. Do not take within 1 hour of an antacid.
At 1:00 PM mix solution with lukewarm drinking water to top of line on bottle. Cap and shake to dissolve the powder. The reconstituted solution will be clear and colorless. Do not add anything else such as flavorings, to the solution. At 2:00 PM drink 1 (8oz) glass of the solution every 10 minutes until the solutions is gone. It is very important to finish ALL of the solution. Drink each glass quickly rather than drinking small amounts continuously. If you are not properly cleaned out it will only delay the colonoscopy and the prep will have to be repeated. Some nausea is to be expected. If you have stomach discomfort or bloating wait longer between drinking each glass until the discomfort goes away.
Clear liquids include:
Nothing red or purple
Water, strained fruit juices without pulp (apple, white grape, lemonade), clear broth or bouillon, coffee or tea (without milk or non dairy creamer), Jello , Kool-Aid, Gatorade, popsicles, carbonated drinks such as Coke, Pepsi, etc. Liquids such as Sprite, 7UP and Ginger Ale may help with the nausea.
The morning of the test only take necessary medication, such as heart or blood pressure medications with a small sip of water.
